Ranking days and countries
Why each country resets at a different time.
A ranking day is not a calendar day
A ranking day is not a calendar day. Each country has its own reset time, taken from the schedule TikTok uses there so our days line up with the ones creators know. “Today” in Brazil starts and ends at a different moment from “Today” in Japan. The leaderboard shows a countdown to the next reset for the country you picked.
How we know when a country resets
We watch the ranking messages TikTok sends during lives. When a ranking restarts, we note the time and learn the schedule for that country. For countries we haven’t seen yet, an admin sets it by hand until we measure it.
Some countries use a fixed UTC hour, others follow local time, so daylight saving can shift the reset by an hour.
Which country a creator belongs to
We use TikTok’s region for the creator when it is available. If it isn’t, we use the best other signal we have. An admin can correct a creator’s country when it is wrong.
